Ice Hotel Sweden – For Shivering International Travel

If you want to stay in the sort of luxury hotel that you cannot get all over the world then the Ice Hotel in Sweden is something to consider. You can spend the night in a room made of ice and while you are there see some amazingly beautiful sights and as the hotel needs to be rebuilt every year there will be something different while you are there. Inside the hotel there is always an Ice Chapel and Absolute Bar but the picture you see in a travel guide is not quite what you will get the next year.
If you book a four day trip there are plenty of activities to choose from and you will find that you don’t have a minute to be bored. All of them seem to be out doors and as a result you will see so much of the beauty of Sweden and Lapland.
When you arrive at the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi you will find yourself in an area strong in Sami Lapp ways. There have been thousands of tons of ice used to build it. Some of this ice is for you to sleep on and there will be just reindeer skins between you and the block. With temperatures reaching -8, you will need to take warm clothes to go with the thermal sleeping bag you are given.
After your morning lingonberry juice and breakfast, you can select what you do and then that evening you will have dinner and find out a little more about the area.
The same applies to the third day and you will be well advised to work out what you want to do before you get there. This night you will be slightly warmer as you will be staying in a Kaamos room.
For the trip you will have breakfast included in the price along with the transfer to and from the hotel but there are things that will need to be paid for. For the time you have free you can choose from:-
Northern Lights Tour: a four hour long guided snowmobile excursion to see the still mainly unexplained phenomenon.
Wilderness Safari – three hour long guided snowmobile safari where you must remember to keep wrapped up.
Short Dog Sledding Excursion 1.5 hours long. There are also longer trips where you will also take in the kennels
Dinner under the stars – totally romantic and not the sort of thing you will do often in these temperatures.
Ice Sculpting
As the temperature can reach as cold as -37 the best idea is to make sure that you stay active.
