Magical Prague at Night
The Czech Republic has undergone a serious makeover since the end of the communist era in 1989. What was an extremely controlled nation has returned to its bohemian roots. After all, that is where the word “bohemian” came from – Praha (Prague) is the capital of the Czech Republic and Bohemia. Since its introduction to capitalism and free commerce, Prague has risen to become one of eastern Europe’s most exciting major cities.
The view is spectacular from the famous St. Charles bridge and seeing the Prague Castle lit up at night looks like something out of Disneyland, the happiest place on earth. The President of the country still resides in the castle, which dates back to the ninth century. Although much of the city’s history has been marked with sad events, it has turned itself around and become a worldwide hot spot.
These days, there are clubs for all ages and all price ranges in this magical city and it’s a safe haven for all types of nightlife. Check out the five top sites we’ve selected for your amazing trip to Prague – they include the elegance and culture that our readers crave.
1. Reduta Jazz Club
Founded in the 1950s, the Reduta Jazz Club made worldwide news when President Clinton was a part of the 2011 Two Presidents’ gig that featured him getting down on his saxophone. He played along with Vaclav Havel, former president of Czechoslovakia, who passed away days after the performance. The club is elegant in its own way. The cover charge is low and there is a no-drink minimum. Even though it is not one of Prague’s most elegant clubs, it is one of the most popular. Live musicians play nightly and don’t be surprised by the outstanding performances. It’s a night of intimate music with locals and international musicians.
2. Cloud 9 Sky Bar
Picture yourself sitting along the window, side-by-side with some of Prague’s most interesting and international patrons. Located at the top of the Hilton, the view is fantastic. The prices are great considering it is such a unique venue. Try the fabulous cocktail tasting between the hours of 6 pm to 9 pm. For a mere $30 per person, you receive an unlimited amount from their menu of 10 different signature cocktails. Great place to mix, mingle and appreciate the local flavor.
3. Narodni Divadlo – The National Theater
The National Theater is considered one of the iconic structures in Prague. Known for its cultural heritage, the theater strives for being known as one of the most artistic and important theaters in the world. It is also considered the “alma mater” of Czech opera, as it displays the history of the country in its most creative forms. The structure is lit up at night and promises to provide an evening you will never forget.
4. Duplex
The clubs in Prague are as hip and upscale as in any of our favorite major cities, such as London or Paris. Duplex is both a club and a restaurant, so go late enough to do both. Grab a light bite in the culinary flavors of the country before a night of mingling and dancing with the exclusive patrons in the club, both are on the sixth floor. Make no mistake, this is for the upscale jet setters who can afford the cost of entry and drinks. Rumor has it, Mick Jagger celebrated his 60th birthday in this cool club and restaurant with a view.
5. Radost FX
This is a gallery, restaurant and club combination and where you’ll find Prague’s rich and famous hanging out. When you’re in Prague, this is on our ‘must visit’ list because of the eclectic decor in its three distinctively different areas. The space is spacious, open and inviting – a place to see and be seen – it’s considered one of the best in the city. If you get there early, be sure to try the great Italian, Asian and American cuisine. The preparation, presentation and taste will satisfy your pre-club tastes to perfection.
