Cruise Around in a Luxurious Jaguar

The Jaguar name brings up images of luxury sports cars, yet the company makes spectacular sedans and coupes to-die-for. It was originally founded in 1922 as the Swallow Sidecar Company making motorcycle sidecars before expanding into the vehicle market. After World War II the name changed to Jaguar to make sure people did not misunderstand the SS initials with the super powerful SS security branch of the Third Reich (Schutz-Staffel).
In 1966, the company was sold to The British Motor Corporation. Years later, after merging and de-merging with Leyland Motors, it was listed on the London Stock Exchange until it was finally purchased by the Ford company in 1990. Today, the cars are designed in the Whitely plant in Coventry and  Gaydon in Warwickshire and manufactured in the Jaguar’s Castle Bromwich assembly.
Last fall, Jaguar Land Rover announced that it will construct a $160 million development center in Warwick, UK to develop vehicles of the future. We can’t wait as this is planned to roll out during this year.
Today, we’re taking a look at some of Jaguar’s most popular luxury vehicles that most anyone would love to own.

1. Jaguar XKR-S Coupe

This grand tourer was introduced in 2006 and each year’s model is better than the last. There have been six generations of the Eaton supercharger that fuels the smooth performance of this 5 liter V8 engine. The car reaches a top speed of around 155 mph and accelerates from 0 to 60 in 4.6 seconds. Jaguar’s all include high performance brakes and in this model it happens with large 15 inch front and 14.8 inch rear rotors. The shock absorbers are within its Adaptive Dynamics mechanics which gives it top performance. Bowers & Wilkins 525 watt surround sound system will make this one of the coolest cars for driving along an empty country road. Price: $350,000

2. Jaguar XJ Sports Coupe

This model has been manufactured since 1968 and in 2003 the third generation was introduced. Although the style and appearance was so similar as earlier models, the auto’s performance was improved with its re-engineered mechanics and technology. The model was criticized for not looking modern enough so Jaguar elected to introduce a fourth generation in 2009. Everyone agreed this model’s contemporary exterior was worth waiting for. The 5-liter V8 engine can go from 0 to 60 in less than 5 seconds, making this a pretty fast coupe. Price: $350,000

3. Jaguar F-Type R Coupe

The standard package on the F-Type R features a 550 hp V8 supercharged engine, 20 inch Gyrodyne Silver alloy wheels, performance seats with leather facing, reverse parking sensors, satellite radio, top Meridian 770 watt audio system and so much more. This model’s performance is top notch and it can go from 0 to 60 in 4.0 seconds. It’s top speed is 186 mph and is pretty good on gas for its category at 23 mpg. Price, $250,000

4. Jaguar XJR

This luxury sedan is gorgeous, with its panoramic roof and sleek lines. It’s performance is outstanding, just like all of the Jaguar models we are featuring today. It runs from 0 to 60 in 4.4 seconds and can hit a speed  of 174 mph when flooring it out on an open road. The drivetrain, chassis and body of the XJR provide superb handling and are typically Jaguar. The standard features include a four-zone climate control, making the interior temperature perfect for each passenger. The 8-speed is electronically controlled and provides super smooth gear changes and if manual gear-selection is preferred, the paddle shifters are positioned conveniently behind the steering wheel. Price: $210,000

5. Jaguar XF Coupe

The 2014 Jaguar XF is into its seventh model year and looks as contemporary, luxurious and as sleek as ever. It has a turbo four-cylinder 240 hp engine and the supercharged V6 brings the hp up to 380, which is a replacement for the V8. There is also an XFR-S (special) model that can zoom up to 186 mph and go from 0 to 60 in 4.4 seconds. Some cool features that aren’t on other models: rear seatbacks that fold down for easy trunk access, two USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity, built in music storage and a rear view camera for ease in parking and driving in reverse. It’s got a distinctive look that is more contemporary than almost all of the Jaguar models. We love it!
