Luxury Watch

The RMS Titanic, a British ocean liner sank on its maiden voyage from Southampton, UK to New York, US in 1912. 2013 marks the 100th anniversary of the sinking of this ocean liner which was considered the ultimate in luxury and comfort with a gym, high class restaurants, swimming pool, libraries and opulent cabins. To commemorate the sinking, Romain Jerome, the makers of unconventional luxury watches have brought out a limited edition watch called the Steampunk Titanic 100th Anniversary Watch.

Generally, luxury watch makers stick to creating safe and stylish designs that sell easily. Unconventional watch designs are comparatively rare because of the prohibitive costs involved. Additionally, the manufacturers are not sure of the market for unusual time pieces. Romain Jerome however, is known to create somewhat unconventional luxury watch designs that are unique. The Swiss watchmaker offers products that are exciting and out-of-the-ordinary which are hugely popular with the elite class.
The Titanic Remembered
 
This is not the first time that Romain Jerome has created a product in connection with the ocean liner. Earlier, they had created “Titanic DNA”, a luxury watch that contained a small amount of metal from the ocean liner. The bezel of the luxury watch was made by combining the metal from the Titanic with another metal and later rusted to give the watch a distinctive appearance. While a section of the population found the timepiece to be in poor taste, others felt that the Titanic DNA luxury watch was an appropriate homage to the tragedy. However, the controversy proved profitable for Romain Jerome – the limited edition watch became quite popular and the brand made good business.

Steampunk Titanic 100th Anniversary Watch
 
The luxury watch features black steel casing with a rusty bezel which seems to be its unique selling point. Steampunk Titanic 100th Anniversary Watch comes in two models. One is the RJ Steampunk Auto 100th Anniversary Watch which only gives the time. The seconds hand in this model is built like a ship’s propeller. The other version is the RJ Steampunk Chrono 100thAnniversary Watch that shows the time as well as chronograph functions. Only 100 timepieces of each model will be created. The auto model costs approximately $14,383 while the chronograph version is about $16,445.
