OCEAN TRANSPORTATION – GET HOLD OF DURABLE USED OR NEW BOATS

As it is peculiar with Lagos,Nigeria, I woke up one Monday morning at about 4.00 am getting ready to go to work….sounds surprising?   Well, that is Lagos for you.  Highly congested city with inadequate transportation.  Even with the good foresight of the State Governor, providing thousands of long buses to complement the local commercial buses, it still very much inadequate and has also added to the long traffic jam being experienced on as daily basis.
I was going to Victoria Island and was inside one commercial bus.  We were on top of the bridge linking Lagos Mainland with Lagos  were watching the beautiful ambiance of the seaside.
There are several locally made fishing boats stationary on water with people fishing.  These local fishermen and women are strong swimmers including their children.  It is generally agreed within the locality that these people cannot get drown in water.  However, as I was feeding my eyes with the work of nature,  I saw a boat carrying people to work in Victoria Island and as the boat was passing through an area where there was strong water current, it capsized, throwing everyone on board into water!
The saving grace and the safety precaution taken was that everyone on board puts on life jacket.  They were all dangling inside water and shouting for help!  Other boats that were nearby quickly came to their aid and picked up everyone to safety.
Boat transportation is another important additional means of transportation in Lagos which should also be fundamental in any area in the world surrounded by water.
This means of transportation apart from carrying people and goods, can also be used for leisure, recreational, military and tourism.
However, choosing the right type of boat is of paramount importance.  Oftentimes you see local carpenters building boats they do not have much experience to build.  The result is the type of mishap I mentioned earlier.  There should be some sort of certification of boats by an agency before it is being used for commercial purposes.  The way people build all sorts of boats using all sorts of wood and without any expertise is very dangerous and people are daily risking being drown in water.
There are professionals that have the expertise to sell used or new boats that will be durable, reliable and with all the necessary apparatus needed to drive the boat.  Detail information, I am sure, can be sought on this website.
