WHAT IS THE FUSS ABOUT RENTING OR BUYING A BOAT
My boss is one of the big boys in Victoria Island, one of the “VIP” areas in Lagos,Nigeria. His taste for expensive and flashy material is second to none.
Anything he wants to do, he goes for the best. We are always careful in the office when he wants something to be changed. You dare not change anything without giving him the opportunity to chose from among the best available. Ranging from toiletries, to furniture, paints, stationery, office equipment, cars and the latest, a BOAT!
Sometime, when he wants to relax, he would rent a boat and cruise around the Island for several hours.
However, he just decided since he has the fund, why not buy a boat? He went for it and got a boat for his relaxation. Anytime he likes, he takes his boat out and start cruising.
One thing I noticed about him is his simplicity about life. He is always cool and calm. Looking fresh everyday. You don’t have to look far to know the secret of his freshness. He is always taking time out of the stressful office situation and ready to pay whatever price to maintain his freshness and happiness.
Unfortunately, some people are raising dust on his decision to own a boat. They thought he is wasting money and should have used the money for something else. What they do not realize however, is that no amount is too much for anyone to do anything that gives him happiness, physical fitness and cognitive alertness.
I do not know why people should be flexing muscle on matters that do no concern them. My boss is spending his money on something that benefits him and improves his health to make more money.
On the question of whether to continue renting or buy, my boss use the opportunity of renting to assess various boats, just like I mentioned earlier, he likes selecting from among the best available.
Frequency of usage also informed his decision to buy. If he continues to rent, over a period of time he would have used double the amount he used to buy a new one.
To reduce maintenance cost, he is ready to rent it out anytime he is not using it.
The joy he and members of his family derives while cruising cannot be financially quantified. There are other activities while boating and it includes, fishing, and water-ski.
If you've got the money, consider owning a boat and have fun.
