A Luxury Trip To The Great Barrier Reef


When you visit the Great Barrier Reef – one of the most famous Australian tourist attractions -there are lots of small islands that will make an ideal place to make your base. Some of the ones that have been best developed for short term tourists are Dunk, Lizard and Orpheus and this makes it much easier to see more of the area as you can spend the night there rather than having to go back to your hotel each night.
When you are at the Great Barrier Reef there are plenty of things to see and do and you don’t have to spend the whole time in the water although there is plenty to see there. You can go snorkelling and learn about the marine life and it you do this from Orpheus there is a catamaran attached to the island so the trip can be undertaken right away.
If you want to go for a walk there are few places nicer than the rain forest. On Dunk Island there are some spectacular sites and if you want to relax the next day then there is a golf course on hand.
If you want to take back some souvenirs for yourself or gifts for others then there will be something for everyone. Aboriginal art is popular and can be as cheap or expensive as you want, while duty free goods will give you a good bargain if you want electrical items. While not to everyone’s taste there will be plenty of boomerangs, wide rimmed corked hats and cuddly kangaroos – a must from all Australian holidays.
The seasons are the same as lots of Europe but in reverse. Christmas is spent in the sun, while the months of April-September will not be ideal for a conventional beach holiday. You don’t need to be vaccinated to gain entry but it is recommended that you get a Tetanus injection.
Accommodation on Lizard Island.
The 40 villas, suites and rooms all have showers, air conditioning, telephones, minibar and various electronic appliance and will have a deck, balcony or terrace. Garden room are close to the beach and set in the garden while the Pavilion is a private hideaway that has wonderful views and a large decking area.

Restaurant
All meals will be taken in the Osprey where there is a range of local and International food. Most food is included as part of the package but for certain hampers and menus there could be an additional charge.
