OCEAN TRANSPORTATION – CRYING FOR INVESTMENT



There are several cities around the world surrounded by water but which little or no effort is made towards investment in ocean transportation.
There is the need to look at what transportation will the masses pay the least amount?  What transportation has the accident severity rate and accident frequency rate?
TRAVEL TRANSPORTATION COST
Comparing travel transportation cost, air transportation is the most expensive, followed by road transportation and the least is water transportation.
TRAVEL TRANSPORTATION ACCIDENT SEVERITY RATE
From incident reports, air transportation has the highest severity rate as there is little or no chance for survival if a plane has problem on air.  The impact of the plane due to its speed and distance from ground makes survival near impossible.  Human beings are not made to fly, so, it is not possible to jump down from a problematic plane on air.  Road transportation is next, however, there is survival chance, as people can be rescued and immediately taken to the hospital.  Water or sea transportation, still, has the least accident severity rate as people are provided with life jackets that enables them float on water.  We have had cases of people swimming to safety in sea accident.  Probable cause of sea accident may be due to difficult weather condition, non-adherence to safety precautions and human error.  Comparatively, water or sea transportation has the least accident severity rate.
TRAVEL ACCIDENT FREQUENCY RATE
Empirically, Road transportation has the highest frequency rate, followed by air transportation.  Sea or Water travel accident seldom happens if safety precautions are strictly followed.
Flowing from above analysis, it is very obvious that ocean transportation is the safest means of transportation and the cheapest in terms of what people pay to travel on sea.  Why is it then that people are not investing on road transportation?  Government legislation, creating enabling environment for investors and non-sensitization of people on the option of sea transportation.  THIS IS A LUCRATIVE BUSINESS THAT INVESTORS SHOULD DISCUSS WITH VARIOUS GOVERNMENTS TO CONSIDER.  LAGOS, NIGERIA, FOR EXAMPLE, IS A CITY WHERE WATER TRANSPORTATION IS CRYING FOR INVESTMENT.
WHAT TYPES OF BOATS CAN BE USED FOR OCEAN TRANSPORTATION?
There are various types of boats that can be used for transportation and it includes OCEAN YACHT, POWER BOATS, CATAMARANS, AND MOTOR YACHT.  There is also Taxi boat.  The type of boat used will determine comfort ability and the amount to be paid for such transport.  Investors have the option of purchasing new transport boats or used boats.  They can also rent or charter a transport boat.
